Master Plan for the Conference Center and Nature Trail The Conference Center is sited at the northeast corner of the property, surrounded by oak trees and weathered boulders covered in ancient lichen. The building is envisioned to be a lodge with flexible indoor/outdoor space. The interior will be arranged to accommodate rows of chairs for lectures or the viewing of films or slides. Alternatively, sofas and chairs can be gathered around a large stone fireplace for intimate group discussions with guest speakers. Sliding glass walls on the back of the building can be fully opened in warm weather to expand the space onto an outdoor stone terrace bordered by oak trees. The building also includes a catering/food preparation area and restrooms. Future development of the Conference Center may include a series of small cabins for overnight events. A trail leading from the Conference Center through a boulder strewn oak grove will be named “Stoney’s Grove” and be dedicated to the memory of an Asian bull elephant, Stoney, who suffered and died while perfroming at a Las Vegas casino. His story will be told along the trail and will illustrate the mistreatment of captive elephants that PAWS is dedicated to ending.
