Meet
Cleo
Cleo, a tiger born into captivity in June 2023, was confiscated from a private facility by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife in February 2024. She was suffering from severe Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD), a very painful condition caused by inadequate nutrition, which left her with multiple bone fractures and deformities. She was temporarily housed at the Oakland Zoo, where she received excellent care for seven weeks.
Cleo arrived at PAWS on April 8, 2024. The 10-month-old cub immediately endeared herself to her caregiving staff. Although MBD has caused permanent damage to bones in her neck and legs, she has grown into a strong and muscular tiger and is in excellent body condition.
Cleo is always full of energy. She loves to play with her “toys”, which are specially designed to withstand a tiger’s battering. She’s also enthusiastic about water, whether it’s swimming in her pool or being sprayed with a hose on hot summer days. Cleo is friendly toward her caregivers, often greeting them with warm tiger “chuffs.”
PAWS provides the perfect combination of expert, individualized care, and a peaceful, natural setting. With sound nutrition, dedicated daily care, and veterinary attention when necessary, Cleo is in excellent hands.
