Meet
Rumi
Rumi, a bobcat born in 2020, arrived at PAWS in January 2024 at four years old. She came to us from WildCat Ridge in Oregon, a refuge dedicated to caring for wild cats of all sizes. Due to circumstances beyond their control, they were forced to rehome Rumi and PAWS was more than happy to provide her with a lifelong home.
At just eight months old, Rumi was surrendered to WildCat Ridge by a private owner who feared she might harm her pet dogs as she grew more aggressive. How Rumi came into private hands remains a mystery, but one thing is certain: wild animals belong in the wild, not in people’s homes.
True to her species, Rumi is naturally shy and prefers to keep her distance from people. Her reserved nature is simply part of who she is, and she is thriving in her own way. Providing an environment in which the animals can make their own choices is an important part of our sanctuary work.
Despite her small size, Rumi has a spitfire personality. She enjoys hiding and playing in large boxes, and she spends much of the day napping in the branches of her favorite tree. In the evening, however, she becomes more active, exploring her surroundings and fully attuned to the sights and sounds around her.
