PAWS’ June 2025 Newsletter
By PAWS
In May 2025, PAWS welcomed two big cats rescued from Oregon’s West Coast Game Park Safari after a large-scale law enforcement seizure of 322 animals stemming from serious animal welfare violations. Working with the Big Cat Sanctuary Alliance, all animals were placed in accredited facilities, and the new arrivals are now settling in under expert care, though details remain limited due to the ongoing investigation. This marks PAWS’ second such intake in two months, following the March arrival of Dally the black bear and Casey the mountain lion from a California seizure, with a bobcat to join once a new enclosure is ready. PAWS commends law enforcement efforts to shut down exploitative wildlife facilities and urges the public to avoid captive wildlife attractions such as circuses, roadside zoos, and animal photo ops, which often involve cruelty and misrepresentation. The newsletter also highlights new scientific calls for zoo transparency, discouraging the capture and exhibition of wild animals, and shares research on the ongoing welfare challenges of elephants in captivity.
