PAWS’ July 2025 Newsletter

By PAWS

This summer, PAWS is preparing for rising temperatures by keeping both animals and staff cool and comfortable. Residents enjoy fresh water, pools, sprinklers, shade, and enrichment like frozen fruit “popsicles” for bears, while elephants take mud baths for cooling and skin protection. Caregivers work in shaded areas, stay hydrated, and look out for one another, ensuring high-quality care in every season. The newsletter also spotlights a new report, The Unnatural Lives of Elephants in Captivity, which calls for ending elephant breeding and phasing out their presence in zoos due to persistent welfare issues and lack of genuine conservation value. Additionally, PAWS warns against wild animal attractions at fairs, exposing the cruelty behind cramped transport, abusive training, and stressful environments, and urges the public to take action by avoiding such shows and advocating for their ban.
