PAWS’ August 2025 Newsletter

By PAWS

PAWS is one of the few U.S. sanctuaries dedicated to rescuing and caring for bears while also fighting against their exploitation in zoos, traveling shows, cub petting operations, and the exotic pet trade. At PAWS, bears live in spacious, natural habitats where caregivers encourage natural foraging behaviors to keep them healthy and engaged. The sanctuary is home to three remarkable bears: Dally, a quiet black bear rescued this year from a neglectful pseudo-rescue facility; Mack, an energetic three-legged black bear who has thrived at PAWS since 2016; and Ben, who was freed 13 years ago from a barren roadside zoo and now enjoys roaming, swimming, and resting in peace. Together, they embody the hope and healing that true sanctuary provides.
