PAWS celebrates the 12-year anniversary of African elephants Thika and Toka arriving at the sanctuary—marking Thika’s 45th birthday and honoring Toka’s resilience after a traumatic early life—while highlighting how both now thrive in peaceful, natural habitats. The newsletter also introduces Meg the tiger and Pasha the lion, two of more than 300 animals seized from a neglected roadside zoo and now safely settled at PAWS. Additional updates include PAWS hosting the Big Cat Sanctuary Alliance Conference, a tribute from Co-founder Ed Stewart to the late Jane Goodall and her longtime support of their work, and news of a newly published scientific paper by Dr. Jackie Gai on diagnosing mesothelioma in big cats, underscoring PAWS’ ongoing contributions to animal welfare and research.
