In this issue, PAWS warmly welcomes Archer, a five-year-old bobcat and the sanctuary’s newest resident. Rescued from the Barry R. Kirshner Wildlife Foundation in Butte County after an animal welfare investigation, Archer joins fellow survivors Dally the black bear, Casey the mountain lion, and Cleo the tiger. After receiving excellent interim care at Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue, Archer has now settled into his spacious new habitat at PAWS, where his friendly and curious nature is already shining through. This edition also celebrates the success of Elephant Appreciation Day, which raised funds for new hay enrichment bags that help the elephants stay active and engaged indoors. Plus, readers can explore a fascinating feature on elephant trunk “handedness”—revealing that elephants, like people, can be right- or left-trunked!
